Wedding on Fraueninsel Island, Chiemsee
The tiny Fraueninsel Island on Lake Chiemsee, where no more than 300 people permanently live, can be walked around in 40 minutes. However, you should spend at least half a day there to feel the local rhythm of life. In the center of the island is the Benedictine Frauenworth Monastery. It was founded already in 782, Tassilo III, Duke of Bavaria. Since then, the monastery buildings have been repeatedly rebuilt. Frauenworth Monastery is visited mainly by people who dream of becoming parents. It is assumed that they are helped in this by the patron saint of the monastery, St. Irmengard. There is also “evidence”: a whole wall with photos of babies born after their parents visited the monastery. Today, the monastery, founded back in VIII century, is home to Irmengard. Like many centuries ago, they produce marzipan and kimza liqueur and deliver fruits and vegetables from their gardens to restaurants on the same island. Another attraction of Fraueninsel is the thousand-year-old linden in its center, under which, according to legend, other Druids performed ritual dances. Do not forget about fish restaurants, where the cuisine is simple, but very useful and delicious! The island is reachable by boat all year round from Gstaad, Prien and Sibruk.
